Shadow To Light
Lycan vs. Unicorn

:star: My second and final entry to the Bring Your Vision to Life Contest.

:bulletred: I was listening to Amethystium & Enya when I was working on it. So their music inspired me to bring shadow (lycan) and light (unicorn) together.

:bulletred: Took 4 hours to create the scene. Render took 20 hours. The PC I'm using crashed two times during rendering. Not because of the weight of the scene but because of a hardware failure.

:bulletred: I transferred the files to my design machine again and resuming the rendering on this image in my design machine, I detached every single part of the render machine - cleaned up everything and replaced the power supply and reassembled it. I'm very tired of being my own technical service. Looking forward to have workstations with guaranty.

:bulletred: Workflow: I've set up and posed the figures with using Poser 7. Exported them with both content exporter plug-in and OBJ export (to have textures separately). I imported objects to Vue and retextured them with custom bump values and options. Created the environment around them with Vue and after finishing scene set up I started to work on the lighting.

:bulletred: Lighting I came up with over 10 different lighting variations. I used key, fill, kicker and more fill. Tried tons of colors and shadow attributes. Tried night, dawn, dusk and evening. I decided to use two fill lights (one blue / one orange) and radiosity together with a strong key (sun light).

:bulletred: Post Work When I took the final render result to Photoshop I started to listen to Enya. The "colors" on her soundscape "paintings "were always inspired me. So I decided to colorize the image instead of using a nearly untouched render version. I wanted to reflect the feelings that her music created on me. Something like fairy tale-ish.

Well, I think that's all. I hope you guys enjoy it - let me know what you think about it and thanks again for your unconditional support as always. Detail shots of both entries coming soon.

Special thanks to my dear mother for her useful comments during the creation of this image. She helped a lot and she got a really artistic eye. I'm grateful about this.

Well there ya go - I just learned what a Lycan is :giggle: and who says dA is a waste of time? :paranoid:

My only concern with these is that since Wacom is mainly about digital painting, chances are they'll automatically avoid any that have too much 3D involved. But oh well, that's your "main" so good luck anyway :handshake:

LOL I really don't care anymore. I've tried my best the tools I'm using best.

We have a real 3D rendering contest on evermotion. I'm intending to participate...

LOl, yeah, after a certain amount of practice, you can usually tell what your'e destined to do and what not ;p I bet you'll kick ass on that 3D contest, and there would certainly be less participating too! and best of all - no popularity issues
