Keep in mind that I'm an artist and I'm sensitive about my shit. - Erykah Badu.
See, I'm an elitist. I've been using Maya for years professionally, and am Grand Master level with Photoshop. I have two extremely wicked workstations, one of them conveniently in my home, and cackle obscenely at anyone who owns anything Intel, much less one of those paltry "Macs".
But really, the egomania (mine, not yours...) isn't necessary and it doesn't help anyone. I too scorn all those people (especially at Poserosity!) who blindly say everything's great. But it's all a support mechanism; we feed our arrogance, they feed their own in their own ways.
My first instinct though was to point out that you use Poser and Vue... (grins) So, keep in mind when you're bashing others that there are many people out there who would consider using Poser MAKES you a poser. There's always another side, you know?
And really, it shouldn't matter. You make awesome art, and if people disagree, that's what opinions are all about. Just keep making it, my friend. Oh, and quit using Poser soon? (grins at you!)
(For the record... I'd use Vue more myself, but it's just too unstable for the kinds of scenes I make. I thought it was just 6, and waited for 6.5. Then I waited for 7 to "get it right". Now that 7.5's out and it still doesn't work, I'm just doing everything that Vue could do anyway in Maya, and then some. It just takes a lot longer to set up...)
My point being, there's always someone "better" out there. And if those people making crappy art getting great comments and thousands of views think art is a popularity game, well... Look at their paychecks. I guarantee mine are bigger!

looking for a spark of inspiration, get Lit *VisualLit
Something tells me your'e referring to generic anime and "cartoony" stuff...for the most part I agree some artists get too much attention for something I could easily do, but there's a few here that do make that stuff and put an original twist to their style or subjects, and often they'll rise just above the others in popularity anyway, that I don't mind. But yeah - the others get it too easy here...they get dozens of commissions a week whilist I get that many in a year

*priteeboy - proud founder of ~The Worst Artists on dA club! - take a look, have a laugh
As I noticed, there must be something about the years behind the scenes; there are some people who are here for 5-6 years, and this time was enough for them to collect a crapload of watchers, and knowing dA, a lot of them might haven't even seen good artwork, so they can't compare
A lot of times it feels that people don't rate the artwork, but the artist. And they get positive comments because they "got used to it".
And yes, "ass licking" is very common here
